Made these changes: omitted salt, substituted onion powder for onion table salt, used two dressing mixes, added 1 1/two tsp. dried onion, and added 2 beef bouillion cubes to the water. Cooked on low for most 14 hours; shredded meat and refrigerated meat and juice separately overnight. In the morning, I skimmed the fat off the juice, and returned the juice & meat to the wearisome cooker, along with some chopped dark-green pepper, on high to reheat for a couple hours. Served with horseradish and provolone cheese. Was a hit at our family reunion! Leftovers (if whatsoever!) reheat well for a quick tiffin.

I moved from Chicago, and the affair I miss most is the food! This is a great recipe for the Chicago food blues. I, too, used the two pks of dressing mix (I fifty-fifty use the Italian dressing mix on this site), crushed ruby-red pepper, the juice (~i/8 c.) of some sweet and hot peppers, and sliced peppers and onions and serve it on warm Italian bread with mozzarella cheese (with the peppers and onions). The best matter to do is to have it cook in the slow cooker until it is cooked through, then slice it thinly and return it to the juice for nearly an hour (just similar they do at the beef restaurants). It was a striking at my daughter's family birthday party, and took hardly any endeavor. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE RECIPE!

This recipe was good every bit is,just I now use it combined with 3 other recipes for french dip and it is great,I use all of the ingredients in this recipe except use only ii cups of water and leave out both the salt and onion salt,I add together 2 cups onion sliced thin sauted in 1/4 loving cup butter ,i/2 cup soy sauce, 1 can coke[do non use diet or an off make] 1 12 oz. can dark beer, i can beef broth, 1 can condesned french onion soup [campbells is best] I apply the zesty soup mix. I endeavour to get at least a 5 to 6 pound roast rump is o.chiliad. if its pick otherwise I use a sirlion tip roast, this is much cheaper and less fat than a regular sirlion. I also add together italian seasoning, basil, oregano, thyme, and white pepper. I slice the meat very thin like a french dip. update I take started leaving the water out and adding another tin of depression sodium beef broth.

Made this for a casual supper last night and all who ate it said it was the best beef sanwich ever. I followed advice of others and used 2 cups beef broth and i loving cup water; also two packages of Italian dressing mix. My butcher suggested a chuck roast as it shreds more easily for sandwiches. Slow cooked it and served with optional provolone cheese, thin-sliced ruby-red onion, mustard/mayo sauce and horseradish. Purchase really good fresh rolls. Soooo yummy and sooo easy - THANKS!

While the beefiness was moist and tender, there was way too much salt and pepper to make the broth suitable for dipping. I ended up diluting information technology with about 2 cups of water. Next time I'll eliminate the common salt (canned broth is salty enough)and cut the ground pepper in half. Otherwise, the Italian beef gustatory modality was definitely there and very proficient. For the person in Phoenix, try Luke'south at 16th Street and Indian School for their Italian beefiness. Information technology'due south the closest thing I've found to the existent stuff. A suggestion for another reviewer: If you desire the beef sliced rather than shredded, brand it the day before. After a night in the fridge, slice it across the grain and gently warm it in the broth.

This is fantastic! I've had and so many people asking this recipe. I'g really glad I constitute this recipe. I grew up in Chicago where y'all tin lodge this anywhere you can buy pizza or a hot dog, but hither in Phoenix no one has ever heard of information technology. It'south my little taste of home. This is even better when you lot replace the water with craven goop.
07/22/2001
This is a great recipe! Fabricated sandwiches 'french-dip' style. Will make again.
02/21/2005
I made this recipe using a venison roast and my family thought it was improve than any they've ever had from a restuarant. I took the communication of previous reviews and used two packages of dressing mix and 1 can of low sodium beefiness broth in place of the water. I cooked the roast on loftier for 5 hours, shredded the meat with forks, then cooked an boosted hour. I toasted some big kaiser rolls and added provolone cheese to the sandwiches. Definetely volition make again.
02/18/2011
I have nothing much to add together to the already great reviews. Did all the common ideas ..omitted table salt, used onion powder instead of onion common salt, used beefiness goop (hence the no common salt added), used a 3.5 lb roast and same corporeality of everything else. Information technology did smell and taste fantastic. Made it for Super Bowl. Perfect pick for that. The only thing I must add together... is 17 y.o. daughter walked through the kitchen at eleven am, jerked her right thumb at the kitchen counter (crockpot) and says "Whatever is in that thing smells really expert and I just might sense of taste some". And unfortunately, that for me, is the highest praise I'll ever become. Oh and btw, she actually ate information technology. Actually skilful. Love, Mom

Instead of water, I used ii cans Campbell's beef broth--I wanted more flavour than h2o would have given it plus I'g cleaning out my pantry. I also eliminated the common salt and I made my own dry italian-mode salad dressing mix. Before adding the roast, I layered the lesser of my crockpot with sliced onions and minced garlic and I braised my roast. I used thick rolls that I slathered with garlic butter and threw under the broiler slightly before piling on the meat and provolone cheese and putting it under the broiler again. This was good only we all agreed that we like the italian beef with the peppers a little more than. LOTS of spice and flavor which nosotros all thought was quite tasty--the two grownups just missed the peppers. I appreciate this recipe because when you have a piece of beef that's been sitting in the freezer, information technology can be quite tough if you don't dull cook it. This not only helped me brand quick work out of dinner, information technology saved my meat and then I could utilize it afterall.
12/24/2006
The first time I made this information technology came out tough merely the trouble was my slow cooker cooks in increments of 4, 6, 8, & 10 hours and I was in a hurry and cooked at 8 hours so the meat was tough and hard to pull. I have perfected my technique and now I have to say that this is a 5* recipe and actually meliorate than some Chicago places. I was built-in and raised in Chicago (Near Due north side, NOT the suburbs) and know Italian beef sandwiches. These are better. one. I employ but beefiness broth instead of water. two. I apply extra Italian dsg than what it calls for. Double 3. I add lots of sliced green peppers most an hour before the 10 hours are up. 4. I shredd the beefiness and put it back into the cooker with its juices and peppers and let it soak for a half hour at to the lowest degree. Stirring on occasion. v. Serve with fresh french bread. half-dozen. I start this a 8am and by 7pm we take a fantastic dinner. My entire family and friends love these sandwiches and we are all Chicagoans. This is an awesome like shooting fish in a barrel recipe to brand for when you have many visitors. *****
12/26/2006
We loved this recipe. I used 2 pkgs of italian dressing, 2 cans low sodium beef goop, and left out the bay leafage. I cooked the meat on low for 10 hours in the crockpot. I then shredded the meat with a fork and placed it back into the crockpot to allow meat soak up the juices. My husband and I put garlic butter on the rolls and placed them in the oven at 450 for 10 minutes. Then sauted peppers and onions in olive oil to put on the sandwiches. The order of our sandwiches was: roll, meat, peppers & onions, and cheese. We placed our sandwiches in the oven at 450 until cheese melted. Cheers for this recipe, information technology was wonderful!

I'grand gonna commit a cardinal sin & give a (5-star) review fifty-fifty though I made a few changes...Used a 5lb. chuck roast, 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning (just a shortcut, same herbs), & instead of h2o I used a tin can each of condensed french onion soup, consomee & beef broth. Added the 1 package of dressing mix & a small can of pickled carrots w/ jalapeno. After the beefiness was oh so tender I shredded it & returned it to the crock pot. Made the sammies by pulling the meat correct from the juices & served with sauteed onions, garlic & peppers on french rolls w/ melted provolone cheese. It was the recipe that gave me the idea & the blend of seasoning was delish. I but believe that the beef broths added a depth (if you will) & richness that would be lacking, & I really liked the chip of tang from the pickled carrots/jalapenos. Yum yum smashing - thoroghly enjoyed by all!
03/06/2006
Oh male child have I stumbled on something. I did substitute more than beef broth (2 cups) and added a second seasoning packet of Italian as recommended. When gear up to serve, place meat on an open up faced piece of bread (hoagie style), so add a few sliced upwards peppercini'due south. On summit of that, I added swiss on some, provolone on others. Stuck them in a 400 oven for 5-10 minutes to melt the cheese and well-baked up the staff of life. Wow was that a not bad way to serve these. I used the reserve juice and served information technology au jus way. Got such skillful compliments and information technology dressed it up plenty for company at an Oscar party!!
04/03/2011
Not very impressive, I used beef broth and two packets of Italian and it was withal kind of bland! It was too expensive to make for the consequence nosotros got. so disappointed
03/20/2011
Great recipe although I did brand a few changes. I used 2 cups of beef broth in place of the h2o, double all the herbs and salad dressing and cooked on depression (makes information technology so much more tender) also once shredded I returned the beef for a further hour of cooking. added ii seeded Jalapenos for a little actress bite. Great recipe, its my families favorite and I brand this time and again. You really could not notice a quicker, simpler, tastier dish...

After trying this recipe, you may just recollect twice about ordering Italian Beef sandwiches from a fast food restaurant. I recommend using grass fed beef obtained right from the farmer (if y'all have access to a Farmer's Market or know a skilful meat guy). This beef is by far beefier tasting than than factory farmed grocery shop beef. I utilize extra pepper and garlic in the gravy and add several handfuls of sliced bell peppers (assorted colors) and onions around the roast earlier pouring the gravy in. Also using low sodium *practiced* beefiness stock/broth makes for an even more flavorful gravy than using water. The add-on of peppers and onions makes this recipe THE Flop!!!
10/18/2007
This is ane of the best meals I've fabricated lately! The beef turned out sooo tender and juicy and the flavor was outstanding. Based on other reviews the changes I fabricated were to substitue beef broth for the water and I used two pkgs of Italian dressing mix instead of one. I cooked information technology for 8 or 9 hours, shredded information technology, then put it back in the juices for another 1-i/two hours. I served it on hoagie rolls with swiss & provolone cheese and toasted it under the broiler. And so we topped it off with sauteed mushrooms, peppers and onion. This is a definite keeper and received raves from the guys. A tip- if in that location's any leftovers (I'll always make extra merely to be sure!) Try using this beef to make the "Shredded Beefiness Enchiladas past Christy" from this site. That makes another *awesome* meal.
02/28/2011
Large hitting at the firehouse. Use Zesty Italian-mode dressing mix. Also, use beef stock instead of water. Add a small bit of red pepper flakes for a little extra depth.

I am originally from Chicago and have been dying for REAL Chicago grub. Though it's not the thinly sliced beef that I am used to from up north it tastes but the same! It is a not bad dish and my married woman and I brand information technology now almost monthly! Only suggestion is to premix all the dry ingredients together the night before. That way, in the morning time before you head off to piece of work, you drop in the roast, sprinkle the dry out over it and pour over the h2o. Burn up the slow cooker and simply wait for the stop of the twenty-four hours for a hot sandwich of nostalgia.
11/06/2010
Excellent recipe! Aside from being extremely easy and flavorful, we were able to use the leftovers for several other meals. 24-hour interval 1 we made sandwiches and Day 2 we pan fried some of the left overs and used information technology on tacos. My husband ate his tacos on corn tortillas with the beef, onion, and cilantro while I added refried beans and cheese. Both were excellent. Mean solar day 3 I made a lazy version of beef stroganoff with the meat thrown in. Great easy recipe. We'll make this once more.

My boyfriend and I thought this was awesome. I cannot comment on if it tastes like italian beef because I take never had information technology, but it was really great as a sandwich. I know anybody has their own personal tastes, but I take read several reviews that say this is bland even when they use the beef broth and the actress seasoning packet. I may accept a suggestion on how to make the meat more flavorful. Each time I have made this, I always melt it overnight for about 8 hours, then shred it when I wake up, put it in the fridge before I leave for work, then warm it back up when I go dwelling house. I know that kind of takes away from the convenience of having something gear up and hot when yous get dwelling, merely I can almost guarentee this volition not be "lacking flavor" if this is washed. Maybe the meat just needs to marinate in its shredded form to get the flavor into the meat. Just a suggestion. Very tasty, give thanks you for sharing. We similar ours with provolone cheese, jalepenos, and banana peppers. Sometimes I volition saute onions and green peppers... lots of toppings you can use for this!

Absolute best Chicago Italian Beef clone that I accept tried. I was born and raised in the Chicago area and now reside on the eastward coast (waa waa). I miss Italian Beef Sandwiches!!! This recipe is the closest. Get your self some hot gardinera peppers and have at it. A little chip of Chicago right in your own dwelling. Or summit off your sandwich with mozzarella cheese and you accept a primary. Nice this is da all-time!
09/25/2011
Ok, I'g from Chicago. While this is not true Italian Beefiness sandwich it'due south close plenty. I doubled all the spices and marinated overnight. Browned on stovetop then Cooked on low for about 7-8 hours took out of juice and shredded so returned to crock for about half an hour. I served on warmed hoagie rolls with hot peppers. Just smelling it cook brought back memories. Try information technology..
11/23/2010
This was fantastic! I did follow alot of reviews and doubled upwards on the spices and packets of italian dressing. I added 24 oz of beef broth instead of h2o and only 2 1/2 lbs of beef roast. I added strips of a green pepper to the last iv hours of cooking but wished I had added more. Will make again!!
10/26/2006
We own a catering visitor and have put these sandwiches on our "specials" carte du jour for the second time.....an absolute customer favorite! Anybody loves them. We follow the recipe almost exact, add a petty red wine in identify of some of the h2o. serve them with a condiment tray of sliced cheeses, onions, peppers, tomatoes & lettuce, horsy sauce, mayo and dijon mustard.....I accept received more raves on this menu item than any other!!
eleven/thirty/2006
Information technology was fantabulous but instead of a crockpot, I used a roasting pan. I heated some olive oil, rubbed the meat with table salt and pepper seared the meat in the hot oil and and so browned 2 large onions in the aforementioned pan then poured the seasoning over the meat and covered in foil. I cooked it for 2 1/2 - 3 hours then shredded and stirred in all of the juices and onions together. Delicious. My family could not wait; they ate it straight out of the pan
11/28/2010
I did everything only as the recipe called for it. The house smelled wonderful! And just before information technology was ready I sliced upward some mushrooms, onions, and peppers and threw them in a skillet until they were cooked through and limp. Meanwhile I stuck our Hoagie rolls in the oven at 300 degrees wrapped in foil to let them soften. Once rolls were washed, I placed shredded meat on a cookie sheet topped with pepper mixture and layed provolone slices over information technology and baked til cheese melted. Put mayo on hoagies and put meat with goodies on the rolls and it was WONDERFUL! Sister in law just had a infant and took over some for her and married man too! Loved it!
07/28/2011
This recipe is fantastic!!! I agree with "MomSavedByGrace"'southward comments: use two packets of Italian dressing instead of ane, use beef goop instead of water, and accept the meat out early, shred it, and put information technology dorsum in the juices. I besides prepared our sandwiches the same equally hers and everyone loved information technology. My daughter doesn't like any kind of meat, and neither of my kids like sandwiches, and they asked for this every 24-hour interval until information technology was gone. Very good!!!
06/21/2011
Awesome! Very piece of cake to put together and has an outstanding flavour! And so tender & juice! I followed the recipe to a T. I really retrieve that the reviews that stated it was too salty, must be also be the ones who used beef or chicken broth instead of h2o as chosen for - broth has a very high sodium content. I idea it was perfect as written! Thank You lot!
03/07/2011
Very dainty! This makes enough to serve a oversupply or to serve y'all, over and over. Side by side time, I'll throw in some beef broth and maybe a touch of red wine. I'll also bag it in quart-sized freezer bags and store them in the freezer so they can exist used for a quick lunch or supper.
09/28/2009
This was so good! I advise using a chuck roast if you desire to shred your meat. If you have a meat slicer so get with the rump - otherwise don't bother with that cut because it doesn't shread also and Italian beef needs to be sliced thin! (shredded is next all-time selection IMO) I used 2 packets of the Italian dressing mix and I used one can of beef goop and then added h2o to it to make iii cups total. Served on french rolls (with lots of the juices) with sliced provelone and giardinera. Reminded me of growing up in Chicago!
07/07/2012
Love this! I did; still, tweak information technology to what I have read. Replaced beef broth for h2o, used chuck roast, doubled the salad dressing mix. Served on toasted hoagie rolls, and topped with actress sharp provolone cheese. I throw this together in the morning and when I come in the door afterward piece of work the smells are amazing (plus and so easy).
06/21/2011
Awesome! Very easy to put together and has an outstanding flavor! And so tender & juice! I followed the recipe to a T. I actually think that the reviews that stated it was too salty, must be as well be the ones who used beef or chicken broth instead of water as called for - broth has a very high sodium content. I thought it was perfect as written! Give thanks You!
xi/26/2010
THis is a hitting every time I make information technology. I don't take to change a thing. I get crusty Italian sandwich rolls, split them, lay them open on a blistering sheet. Cover i half with some of the cooked beef, cover the whole affair with slices of mozzarella cheese and pop in 425 oven until cheese is melted and the bread is toasty. Shut the sandwich and bask!
09/10/2011
I used depression sodium beefiness broth instead of h2o, omitted the teaspoon of table salt because I could always add information technology later, used the Zesty Italian dressing mix and didn't bother to boil the spices, just didn't see the demand as it was going to cook all day any fashion. Nosotros really enjoyed this.
01/23/2011
Fabricated this recipe for a family unit party and information technology turned out great. Used beef broth in place of water. I besides cooked the beef two days ahead and shredded it, saved some of the broth then reheated information technology the day of the party with the broth. Yummy!! Thanks for sharing
12/16/2005
Corking recipe! I took a couple suggestions from other reviews. I had a two pound roast, but I used the measurements for a 5 pound roast. I substituted a tin can of beef broth (i 1/2 cups) and added only 1 i/2 cups of water. Which totaled the 3 cups of liquid required with the recipe. I added two packets of Italian manner dressing mix. I did non add the table salt. I cooked the roast in the crockpot on loftier for 3 hours. And then I cut the roast into big chunks and cooked for another one hour. I then took the roast out and shredded it. I put the shredded roast back into the crockpot and cooked for another xxx minutes to go the flavoring throughout the roast. We had this on Gonnella French Italian Rolls. Information technology tasted WONDERFUL. It also has a great olfactory property that filled through the house as it was cooking. My husband also enjoyed this recipe and thought that information technology was succulent. Thank y'all for this nifty recipe!
01/04/2011
This was crawly. I fabricated this as a quick repast for Christmas Eve since nosotros were going to exist on the run. I bought a 3 pound piece of meat and cut it in one-half (froze the remaining half for after) since I was only making this for the 2 of usa. It was really proficient. We used hoagie buns and I bought provelone cheese and broiled it on top of the sandwiches before serving. I too used some of the cooking juices as an au jus. My husband loved it.
12/04/2005
This recipe is delicious! We used chuck roast because information technology was on auction and added 2 beef boullion cubes to the water. We seared the roast earlier we put information technology in the crock pot. Nosotros served it with sauteed onions & greenish peppers on fresh hoagie rolls from the famous Mancini's Bakery in Pittsburgh. Sargento makes a Chophouse flavour of Mozzarella & Asiago with roasted garlic cheese that was fabulous. The beef was groovy by itself and the combination of everything made for a hot, satisfying meal. A definite keeper!
11/23/2012
We loved this one! I used a 2.5 lb. chuck roast. I used broth instead of h2o. I halved the broth and seasonings, simply used a full packet of dry Italian salad dressing mix. I was tempted to chocolate-brown this off get-go and deglaze my skillet with the broth, scraping up the browned bits, merely decided against it and information technology was just fine without the browning. I cooked mine on low for just about 8 - 8 ½ hours and it was perfectly moist and tender and shredded beautifully. I put the shredded meat on toasted mini sub buns, added provolone and baked but until it was nicely melted. I strained the broth and served information technology with the sandwiches as an au jus dipping sauce. Everyone loved information technology. I got six skilful-sized sandwiches out of my 2.five lb. roast. Really yummy! In fact I could go for another i right about now! UPDATE 2/two/14 - I fabricated this again using a 3 lb. chuck roast. Made equally earlier using beef goop again (one can) and halved the seasonings, subbing onion powder for the onion table salt. Note to self: Use the onion salt next time. This three lb. roast was done in 6 i/two hours set up on low in my new crock pot.
03/07/2014
Italian beef came out great! Fabricated the recipe as directed except didn't accept the bay leaf and added diced onion instead of the onion salt. Would recommend cooking on low for the longer time, equally I cooked it on loftier for 5 hours and shredded a little tough. Another 2 hours on low in the croc and the shredded meat softened upwards wonderfully and information technology was a hit at the political party. The only must have is a jar of Giardiniera, no Chicago Beef is consummate without!!!
12/31/2012
We fell onto this bulky goodness like a pair of mountain lions! My beau has already told me three times in the last thirty minutes that he LOVED this and it'south a keeper. I'm chewing on my second sandwich every bit I type this! This is great recipe for then many occasions: decorated weeknights, tailgates or parties... and it can stretch if you go far on little slider buns as an appetizer. I simply did a few things differently. I used low sodium beefiness broth instead of water. I used a 4.vii lb. bottom round roast which was the all-time "economic" choice and looked less fatty. The fat it did have was on the outside of the cut. I removed nearly of the thicker fat earlier putting information technology in the cooker. I did not employ the table salt, but the onion salt. And I added a generous tablespoon of dried onion flakes. Everything else was just as listed. I served it on toasted hoagie buns with yellow banana peppers, sauteed mushrooms and provolone. As others mentioned, I generously drizzled the broth onto the bun; at that place was plenty of liquid so I retrieve yous could use it in a pocket-sized bowl a la "french dip", too. This as well freezes well mixed in with the jus so I program to enjoy this a couple more than times in the coming months!
04/13/2011
Fantastic! I was looking to brand something that would take me and my hubby back to our last trip to Chicago, where nosotros ate at Al's Beef after seeing it on Man Vs Nutrient. This fit the bill and a 2.v lb roast fabricated three nights worth of the most delicious Italian Beef sandwiches. Especially delicious when eaten on Rotella's hoagies and dipped in the juices (I did apply beefiness broth instead of only water.)
07/19/2004
Oh my gosh, this is awesome! I made this recipe in an "emergency" when I needed an entree for a casual gathering. The flavour on this was WONDERFUL and everybody there had at least second helpings. It disappeared! (I took the communication of others here and used beef goop instead of water and doubled the salad dressing mix.)
04/03/2011
Wow! I've been searching for recipes that bring that eating house flavor to my table. I volition search no more than. Easily down, this is the all-time shredded beefiness recipe I accept tried. I can't stop eating it! As previous reviewers suggested, I used craven broth rather than water. I omitted the salt because of the broth. I served this on toasted buns and the consequence was fantastic! I would give it more stars if I could!
02/03/2014
This was really good. I used a chuck roast withal seasoning and 1 i/2 pkgs of the dry out salad dressing. So unproblematic so good. I too used 32ounces of beef goop for a four lb roast. Came out great!
10/15/2002
My husband grew up in Chicago and his mother would make these sandwiches all the time for him. When I made this recipe, he never wanted me to go back to his mothers. This is the best beefiness sandwiches nosotros've ever had! I have made this particular recipe many many times.
09/13/2002
One of the all-time sandwiches ever! Information technology's so easy, yous can hardly believe the results. I added sliced onions and mushrooms to the recipe and topped the sandwiches with mozzarella cheese on hard rolls. These were then tasty, I'thou going to make them for our next big family unit gathering. Thanks for a wonderful recipe.
02/xix/2011
My sweetie fabricated this for a tailgating party. It was exceptional! This is something we volition make again...and once more...and peradventure again...and once again. :)
01/xviii/2003
No wonder this is a 5-star recipe! Admittedly succulent, brand a tough rump roast sense of taste like $10.00 a pound roast beef. I doubled the italian seasoning mix and used beef broth instead of water, and it was and then delicious that my husband wanted sandwiches ii nights in a row. This from a man who doesn't do leftovers! Makes great hash, too!
03/xvi/2011
I didn't know whether to requite one star for disappointment or v for taste and then I went with the eye and gave it 3, hither is why: I followed the recipe exactly, and all twenty-four hours my family kept asking if I was making a roast with carrots and potatoes, I realized they were right, that is exactly what the house smelled like. Well I shredded the roast after approx 10 hours, sauteed some onion and mushroom on the stove, and toasted the sub rolls nether the broiler with some six cheese Italian cheese. It was good, but nosotros all agreed that information technology just tasted similar the leftovers nosotros have a couple times a month when I brand a roast. I always make gravy from the drippings when I do a roast and potatoes in the crock, so I shred the leftover roast and put information technology all in the fridge for hot roast beef sandwiches the next day. So all the left over shredded beef and broth leftovers from this recipe are in the refrigerator for hot roast beef sandwiches tomorrow.
12/07/2010
This was awesome!!!! Next time I take a football party, I am going to serve these with habitation made fries and a fixins bar with sauteed onion mushrooms, green peppers, hots... The herb flavors blend then well with the beef and information technology is very tender. This was a huge hit!
02/23/2014
ii/23/14 good. in crock on low half dozen hours and loftier 2 1/ii hours
03/14/2011
I'yard always looking for new crockpot ideas, and this one is different. The just change I made and information technology was after the meat had been cooked, was I felt it needed a flake more seasoning so I added one more package of Italian dressing mix to the liquid. I as well toasted the french rolls and then melted some Jack cheese on the botton piece nether the broiler. That also helps to prevent a soggy bun. Pretty tasty!
02/08/2004
My guests loved this recipe, but all of them asked for onions to go with it. Afterward trying a variety, I plant that for this recipe, people adopt red onions sauteed over medium heat, until they are really really soft. A medium red onion makes enough for most five developed servings.
04/09/2008
This is a spectacular recipe! I used sirloin tip roast and it was all lean. Likewise took previous advice and used two pkgs. of dressing mix and beefiness broth in identify of water. Served on toasted French rolls with melted provolone ... you lot can impress visitor with this one!
04/04/2011
Loved this recipe.. and then easy to make. I took the suggestions of using (2 1/2 Ilbs)chuck roast instead of the rump roast, used Beefiness broth instead of water and omitted the salt and likewise used 2 pkgs of Italian-manner salad dressing mix. And then put sandwiches nether the broiler topped with pepperoncini and topped with provolone cheese. Yum. Side by side time might endeavor toasting hoagies first with garlic butter.
06/xviii/2011
I can't give this recipe enough stars. It is so like shooting fish in a barrel to put together so go through your twenty-four hour period without any worries. The end results are beyond delicious. I use chuck roast because of saving $$$. I besides utilize twice every bit much Italian seasoning as called for. Serve this sandwich with Provolone cheese, grilled onions and assistant peppers and it is a feast. My family loves this sandwich.

Instead of salt and onion salt, I used an onion soup packet. I had well-nigh a 2.5lb chuck roast, merely kept all of the seasoning amounts the aforementioned. I asked my bf how many stars...he said six. He definitely enjoyed information technology!

I made so many changes maybe I shouldn't charge per unit this recipe?? Although they are the same changes about people seem to have made. I used beefiness goop instead of water, doubled the dressing, omitted the table salt and used onion pulverisation instead of onion salt. It was very very yummy.

I use chuck roast istead of rump roast it turned out succulent. This will be in our regular rotation from now on!

This is an amazing recipe. I made information technology twice in one calendar week, and I live alone! Following suggestions past others, I used a 32oz container of beef broth, two packets of Zesty Italian dressing, and Italian seasoning in place of individual herbs. I DID Not add table salt. Adjacent time, which may be today, I'thousand going to rub fresh garlic over chuck roast and let it sit for a day earlier cooking. I served information technology on crusty rolls, which I broiled topped with either dill pickle fries or peproncini and provolone cheese. This will definitely exist my go-to political party dish.
07/26/2010
used beefiness broth and added two packets of dressing and omitted whatever extra table salt. Besides used fresh garlic. like others have said, information technology was awesome on toasted rolls with provolone. Cooked in crock pot about 5 hours on loftier for 4 lb meat. just go along checking it towards the end to see how piece of cake information technology shreds.

A great recipe, made me feel like I was back in Chicago. I substituted in a fresh onion, ,a sliced green pepper, and added a couple extra bay leaves and had practiced results.

FANTASTIC! ...and oh human being, the aroma is rima oris-watering! Made this for my father for Father's Day, he proclaimed this one of the all-time e'er sandwiches! I did utilize virtually of the suggestions past the reviewer 'MomSavedbyGrace'. The end result was a moist Italian Beefiness that tasted restaurant gourmet! Thank you, thanks =)

This is a bully recipe merely tin can be done cheaper and easier. Flavor a proficient marblized chuck roast with garlic salt. Season with dry Italian dressing, milk shake several shots of worchestershire over meat and pour 1 can of beer and and equal corporeality of h2o over all. Cook in ho-hum oven or slow cooker. Swell for parties or pot lucks.

ok, a piddling salty for me
06/sixteen/2013
Y'all know, I absolutely love the Italian beefiness sandwiches you get in Chicago. This was just OK. I wasn't crazy about it. The texture of the meat was a scrap spongey and tasted a niggling bland. I don't recollect you can get the same melt in your oral fissure texture and deep flavor results in a crockpot that Chicago Italian beefiness places go in their ovens. Information technology's also hard to duplicate the flavor of the giardiniera and find the right kind of bread. I retrieve this is just one of those things you have to go to Chicago for.
08/04/2006
Absolutely succulent! I live in Chicago and can't believe how close this comes to a real Chicago beef sandwich. I added the 2 pkgs. of dressing and beef broth every bit suggested. Thank yous so much!
03/27/2011
Very good. I did not have any dry Italian seasoning mix, so I did non add information technology to the meat. I kept everything else the aforementioned. When it came time to serve, I halved a French loaf, spread some butter on information technology and placed it under the broiler to toast. I sauted some onions in butter and placed the meat, onions and sliced provolone cheese on the sandwich to creat a sort of philly steak and cheese. Information technology was adept!

I fabricated this for dinner today, and all we can say is WOW! We're Chicagoans, born and raised, and even so alive there, and this was nigh every bit good every bit whatsoever Italian beefiness we've had. I used a 2 lb rump roast, and the dark before, I prepared the Italian dressing/broth mixture to allow the flavors to meld overnight. I used beef broth in place of water, the same amounts for the spices, even though information technology was a smaller roast. I used plain onion powder in place of onion salt, figuring the broth added some additional sodium. I retrieve if one was using a 5lb roast, they should double the spices for the fullest flavor. I put the roast in my crock pot, poured the broth mixture over and set information technology to low. After 9 hours, I used two forks and shredded the beef, and and so added the following sliced peppers to the pot: one green bell, 1 ruby bong, 1 sweet cubanelle and 1 Italian sweet red Ancien pepper. I re-covered the pot, then headed for the gym. When I returned, I checked the peppers and they were perfect! I had some whole wheat French bread rolls (cause nosotros're healthy that mode) that I warmed in the oven, and and then filled them with yummy, tender, flavorful beef. I ladled a bit of the liquid onto the beef and breadstuff to soften it, and so added some of the peppers. To mine, I likewise added some hot giardinera, considering I like it spicy. My husband'south reaction after the showtime bite was "Mmmmmm! Oh, that'due south skilful!"

This recipe was fantastic! I cooked a roast this way, I did use beef broth in place of the h2o, after 12 hours took out the meat and shredded it, (put in fridge for the night) then put another roast in the same juices and cooked for 12 hours once again. Shredded it when done and combined the 2, so I took out a agglomeration of fat from liquid and discarded then poured all the liquid over the shredded meat in crock pot. Served on hoagie buns with sautéed onions and peppers and melted cheese. DELISH

I have already fabricated this 3 times and we beloved information technology. The first fourth dimension I made information technology, I made it like the recipe but used beefiness goop instead of water. The second fourth dimension I used a meat seasoning spice packet (Old West Pepper Steak) that I purchased online instead of the recipe spices and that was really terrific! The tertiary time I made equally per the recipe once more, but doubled the salad dressing packets and once again used beef broth (just more, because we honey it juicy). I am making information technology again side by side week with a different seasoning bundle. This recipe is then flexible, you can make information technology with your favorite spices. It likewise makes the all-time leftovers!

I idea this was likewise salty. BUT, it seemed to balance out in one case in a sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised. Married man loved it, then I guess I'll definitely exist making this again!

SOOOOO GOOOOOD! My boyfriend talked well-nigh how much he loved this for an entire 60 minutes! I only had two.5 lbs of pot roast so that's what I used and it turned out great. I kept all of the same ingredient amounts except added 2 packets of the Italian dressing mix and ane tin of beef broth plus almost a cup and 1/2 of water. I cooked on high for 4 hours, removed roast, shredded, removed fatty, then put it back in pot on low for an additional 30 minutes, along with light-green peppers, ruby peppers, and some onion. I dipped the middle of each bun into the broth from the pot and broiled for a few minutes to brand crispy and tastier. When all was washed put information technology on the buns and served with a pickle. My young man ate 3 and ane/ii! And my picky 5 year sometime eater couldn't get enough either. Sooooo succulent, he will be forcing me to make this over again and again:) Thank you then much!!!!
02/23/2014
Yummy! Used the leftovers to make an awesome stroganoff!
07/01/2003
This Italian Beef is absolutely awesome! I used two 0.vii oz. packages of the dry Italian dressing mix and used canned beef broth in place of the h2o. The flavor was just right! My young man liked it so well, he may just marry me nonetheless!!!
03/01/2011
Very tasty. Made the recipe exactly as written. I used a rump roast equally per the recipe, but i am not a fan. Next time I will utilize a chuck roast.
04/04/2011
This was really really adept, but if you lot're going to use a v lb roast, I suggest you lot double all the other ingredients. I used beef broth instead of water and omitted the common salt.
02/eleven/2014
My family loved this so much they requested I make it again side by side calendar week. My teenage sin was drinking the juices from it!
12/28/2013
I've fabricated this twice and it couldn't be easier. Fifty-fifty people who aren't typically carmine meat eaters enjoyed information technology. I used a 5-lb chuck roast, an entire 32-oz carton of beefiness broth instead of the water, and ii packets of dressing mix. I cooked 10 hours on depression before shredding, and put the meat dorsum in the goop for some other ninety minutes. Nosotros melted sharp provolone on one side of long rolls in the oven, and spread some diced hot cherry peppers on the other side. Really skillful! Thinking of trying this recipe with pork and chicken broth...

I and my whole family unit love this i. It has become my traditional meal for Christmas Dinner. It's piece of cake and smells Wonderful. I normally do 6lbs. of roast and double the liquid and spices. Also I slice the roasts into large chunks to start. When almost done I place sliced light-green peppers on top and let them cook in the juices. When done I take slices out and place in small-scale crockpot. Cheddar cheese sauce is a favorite to top off the sandwich.
03/12/2011
I have fabricated this for years, but I use nix but water and three packages of dry Italian salad dressing mix! It's much easier and almost of the dry out ingredients that the original poster added are in the dressing mix.
02/05/2014
We used a chuck roast instead of a rump, just otherwise followed the recipe exactly. These were a huge striking at our Super Bowl party.
03/13/2011
I made this for Sunday dinner today and my family raved near it! I followed other reviewers suggestions and used beef stock (two cups) but I also added 1 cup of red wine (Merlot) and it was fabled. I also left off the salt. Even though my stock was homemade and wasn't salty, we still didn't miss the salt. I only had 1 packet of Italian dressing mix (Good Seasons Garlic & Herb), so I added all the other seasonings - but used less pepper and onion pulverization instead of onion salt. This is definitely a keeper! Thanks for a not bad recipe.
08/29/2000
I loved information technology. My hubby loved it. I Fried up some greenish peppers & onions to put on top & added mozzarella & fresh parmesan to the sandwhich. Then served it with french fries.
04/02/2013
I have a love/hate relationship with my crock pot. I love how easy it is, but I hate how it makes every unmarried beef dish I cook taste like stew (bleck - not a fan of stew). This is the outset beefiness dish I have ever cooked in my crock pot that doesn't taste like stew. Woo hoo! I followed the directions as written, and information technology's delicious. Thank you!!

This was my first attempt using this recipe & every bit such I am treating it as a baseline for using it in the time to come. First impressions; information technology'south a good starting time, but it requires some adjusting & that is the reason for a 3 star rating. Having grown up in Chicago I have sampled many of the local purveyors of Italian Beef & take a pretty good thought of what an authentic sandwich should sense of taste similar. Proper Italian beef is thin sliced, something most of united states are unable to achieve at dwelling & that has a profound effect on the flavor profile. By shredding the beefiness we get more of the beef flavor & less of the spice flavor that makes the traditional sandwich so adept. I used the recommendations of the others & used beef broth. I'thousand thinking that next time I may utilise water instead to lessen the french dip flavour profile. I would eliminate the bay leaf & next fourth dimension increase the other spices. I like using minced garlic & granulated garlic. I may likewise eliminate the Proficient Seasons packet & use Morton'due south Nature's Seasons mix. The lesser line is that this recipe is a good basic one, but for my tastes needs to be tweaked to account for the differences in the cooking method & serving style. My advice is to accept fun & experiment. Update: Ii days afterward making this recipe I added nearly a tablespoon of Del Appe hot giardiniera & a couple tablespoons of mild giardiniera, let the beef/gravy marinate overnight, & then sampled the side by side day. What a difference. It was the flavor profile I was looking for.

Loved this had a great taste. I sauteed bong peppers in olive oil with garlic. Served the meat on buns with mozzarella cheese and the peppers.
12/30/2010
I made this for dinner final nighttime and all my picky boys raved about this. I cooked exactly as instructed and it turned out fantastic. I made an au jus sauce out of the drippings, melted some cheese on top and dinner was washed! Thanks for the wonderful recipe!
10/25/2011
The first day I made this, I thought it was merely 'ok'. I cooked it on Low for nine hours...The adjacent mean solar day it was 2x'southward as good...also, next time I think I will use 2 packets of seasoning, and not just ane.
04/03/2012
Fantabulous recipe!!! Who needs Portillo's!! I did utilise the recommendation however to add two packs of the dressing mix besides equally using Chuck. It shredded so nicely.
08/11/2014
This was Crawly. I made this for my family yesterday and they absolutely loveed information technology. I followed the recipe to the letter and came out perfect. My daughter wouldn't quit raving virtually them and my wife said good thing football flavor is coming up because these are on the menu for all the games. I will absolutely be making this again. I give it 5 stars but because there are no 10 star reviews.
01/30/2011
This was excellent! Followed to the recipe except I omitted the bay leaf as I didnt have whatever on hand. Super tender, wonderful on dainty crusty rolls with sauteed onions and provolone cheese...will def make this once again
12/27/2005
The easiest way to cook a roast and information technology comes out so tender, not chewy at all.
08/20/2011
Whole family enjoyed these sandwiches tonight. Good flavour, and easy to make. I also added a couple of bouillon cubes to the water, therefore skipping the extra salt, and used onion powder instead of onion salt. I also used chuck center roast instead of rump roast. For some reason, the chuck eye roasts bachelor locally seem to shrink and give off tons of water, so next fourth dimension, I volition probably cutting the liquid in the recipe downwardly to 2 cups, and still apply the 2 bouillon cubes. Just FYI, I used a two.87# chuck centre roast, and it yielded 6 heaping sandwiches. We baked provolone on a large French poppy seed roll, added sliced tomato and sauteed blood-red onions and mushrooms to the beef and defatted drippings. Information technology was quite good... I don't know how my husband ate 2. Served with a dark-green salad and sauteed zucchini and xanthous squash. Cute meal. Cheers for the recipe.. it'south a dainty change from bbq beef, cooked similarly.
08/06/2012
It was ok, merely not as peachy as corking as some of the other reviews suggested. Based on some of the other reviews, I was expecting a bigger flavour. I doubled the Italian dressing, as recommended. It was amend in one case you took information technology out of the deadening cooker, shredded it, sautéed information technology with onions and peppers, and and then loaded it up like a cheesesteak. But still practiced - my husband liked it, and that says a lot. He's very picky!
05/08/2007
I take been looking for an Italian Beef recipe for 4 years, that rivaled the sandwiches I used to eat when I lived in Chicago. I think this is information technology! This was Piece of cake and and then succulent!! Thanks, thank you!
